Preston County, in it’s earlier days, was connected to the rest of the nation through the National Road. During the Great Depression, Eleanor Roosevelt visited West Virginia and immediately sought out ways to help the struggling families and communities living in extreme poverty. Today, visitors can enjoy historic Arthurdale and learn about the homesteaders who participated in the experimental community.
Cathedral State Park is the states largest old growth forest and contains a virgin stand of hemlock trees.
