AFHA AmeriCorps Program

The AFHA AmeriCorps team works with partner organizations to conserve forests and communities. AmeriCorps members help enhance assets to benefit communities by providing community service on conservation, heritage development, and historic preservation projects.

AmeriCorps is a program of the Corporation for National and Community Service, an independent federal agency whose mission is to improve lives, strengthen communities, and foster civic engagement through service and volunteering. AFHA AmeriCorps still recruiting for three positions for the 2015-16 team  (3 Nov 2015)

The following 3 positions are still available:

Elkins Main Street, Elkins, WV -- start as soon as possible for 1 year commitment
Elkins Main Street downtown revitalization organization works to revitalize historic downtown Elkins using the National Main Street Four Point Approach. Member will work closely with Executive Director to increase capacity and effectiveness, with emphasis on assisting Promotion Committee with events and marketing of First Fridays and other events such as the Mountains Beckon Bicycle Parade & Rodeo, Holiday Open House, and Santa’s Workshop. The other emphasis with be supporting Organization Committee with outreach and capacity building, including weekly Community Circle sessions, newsletter, membership development, and volunteer program development. Other duties may include community development and/or historic preservation projects. An outgoing, creative person with good people skills will be best suited for this position. Strong writing skills, social media, and some graphic design experience will also be needed.

Beverly Heritage Center, Beverly, WV (6 miles from Elkins)
– start as soon as possible for 1 year commitment

Beverly Heritage Center is a museum and visitor facility located in the small town of Beverly, the original county seat of Randolph County. The facility combines four historic buildings, and interprets regional, local, and Civil War heritage. Member will assist the heritage museum and community with planning, promoting, and implementing events and programs. Other projects will include exhibit development, collections care, volunteer management, and visitor services.

PRO ON TRAC, Parsons, WV  --  start in spring for ½ year commitment
Parsons Revitalization Organization ON TRAC program will be seeking a spring start member to help support community development and historic preservation based on Main Street 4 point approach. Projects may include adaptive reuse planning, historic building and community cleanup, cultural events and other community development projects as well as capacity building and volunteer management. Candidate should be self-directed, with social media experience.
